House of Winsdor

House of Wettin, which succeeded the House of Hanover to the British monarchy following the death of Queen Victoria, wife of Albert, Prince Consort. The name was changed from Saxe-Coburg and Gotha to the English Windsor (from "Windsor Castle"[1]) in 1917 because of anti-German sentiment in the British Empire during World War I.[2] There have been four British monarchs of the house of Windsor to date: three kings and the present queen, Elizabeth II. During the reign of the Windsors, major changes took place in British society. The British Empire participated in the First and Second World Wars, ending up on the winning side both times, but subsequently lost its status as a superpower during decolonisation. Much of Ireland broke with the United Kingdom and the remnants of the Empire became the Commonwealth of Nations. King George V (1865-1936), Reigned 1910-36 As the second son of King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra, George V had not expected to ascend to the throne

the basis of the badge of the House of Windsor. At the same time, Prince Louis of Battenberg adopted the surname Mountbatten, a partial translation into English. Prince Louis is the maternal grandfather of Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. Only a single person, Alastair Windsor, 2nd Duke of Connaught and Strathearn, who was not a descendant of George V, ever bore the surname Windsor, and he died without issue. So today the only living royal Windsors are the agnatic descendants of George V. Edward VII was the next monarch of Britain. Only months into his reign, Edward caused a constitutional crisis by proposing marriage to the American divorcée Wallis Simpson. The prime ministers of the United Kingdom and the Dominions opposed the marriage, arguing that the people would never accept her as queen. Edward knew that the government led by British Prime Minister Stanley Baldwin would resign if the marriage went ahead, which

Victoria's long reign saw many changes in British constitutions and the British `way of life'. Her rejection of the amusements and life of the aristocracy enabled the common people to identify themselves with this simple wife and window, which led to a revival of popular support for the monarchy. She stressed the value of family and she had middle-class views and life-style. The House of Saxe-Coburg Gotha (the Windsors) are the rulers of Birtain from 1901 until now. The current queen is Elizabeth II. The United Kingdom is one of the most influential countries in the world. Its highly developed industry and education make the country very important. I recommend to everybody to visit the country because the history and culture are very interesting and diverse.
