Newfoundland

Newfoundland Geography Newfoundland and Labrador is located on the eastern edge of North America. Newfoundland and Labrador is home to Iceberg Alley, one of the best places in the world to view icebergs. Just off the coast, the meeting of the cool Labrador Current and the warm Gulf Stream creates an abundance of marine life that attracts thousands of whales, and provides rich nesting grounds for millions of seabirds. To put things in perspective, Newfoundland and Labrador is a little smaller than California, slightly bigger than Japan, and twice the size of the entire United Kingdom. Geography The island of Newfoundland covers 111,390 square kilometres. With the addition of the vast territory of Labrador, the province covers a total area of 405,212 square kilometres, and has more than 29,000 kilometres of unspoiled coastline. Nature Newfoundland and Labrador is one of the

"no-see-ums" can make the tundra a miserable place to be in the summer. Mosquitoes can keep themselves from freezing by replacing the water in their bodies with a chemical called glycerol. It works like an antifreeze and allows them to survive under the snow during the winter. The marshy tundra is a great place for migratory birds like the harlequin duck, sandpipers and plovers. Polar desert: All the wildlife is connected with sea, because there is very little food on land. Vast colonies of seabirds can be found nesting on the cliffs of this ecoregion. Not many animals spend all year there. Alpine biome: Alpine animals adapt to the cold by hibernating, migrating to lower, warmer areas, or insulating their bodies with layers of fat. Animals will also tend to have shorter legs, tails, and ears, in order to reduce heat loss. Alpine animals also have larger lungs, more blood cells and hemoglobin because of the increase of pressure and lack of oxygen at higher altitudes

The biggest city on Saaremaa, Kuressaare, is a quiet green town with friendly unpolluted environment and it has been the biggest port trade centre. The old part of the town has been well restored in Baroque architecture style. Its sights include the Town Hall, the Episcopal castle and a Town Park with a wide variety of plants, trees and bushes. Lake Kaali is one of the best-preserved meteorite craters in Europe, formed 3,500 years ago. Vilsandi National Park protects the ecosystem with its seabirds and coastal plant communities. The Viidumäe Nature Reserve has some carefully protected rare plant species. The Island of Muhu is the third largest in Estonia. A traditional fishing and farming lifestyle still predominates. The Inchcape Rock

It says that although the Rock is hidden beneath the waves, sailors are able to hear the warning bell, can avoid the Inchcape Rock and thank the Abbot of Aberbrothok for putting the bell there. With the fifth stanza, we turn back to the beginning, repeating the first stanza, in a slightly different manner. The location is described it is a sunny day, everything seems to be joyful and 1 lovely. The seabirds are screaming with joy, as they are flying high in the sky. The only thing worth noticing in this stanza is the word "scream'd" ("The sea-birds scream'd as they wheel'd round, / And there was joyaunce in their sound."), which would normally not be used if the tone is calm and lovely, but on the other hand, screaming does most closely describe the sound sea gulls and other such birds make. In the next stanza, Southey uses contrast to distinguish the bell from the surrounding ocean.
