Belling The Cat (Inglisekeelne luuletus koos tõlkega)

Many plans were discussed, but none of them was thought good enough. At last a very young Mouse got up and said: "I have a plan that seems very simple, but I know it will be successful. All we have to do is to hang a bell about the Cat's neck. When we hear the bell ringing we will know immediately that our enemy is coming." All the Mice were much surprised that they had not thought of such a plan before. But in the midst of the rejoicing over their good fortune, an old Mouse arose and said: "I will say that the plan of the young Mouse is very good. But let me ask one question: Who will bell the Cat?" KASSI KELLASTAMINE Hiired tahtsid vabaneda oma vaenlasest, kassist. Või vähemalt teada saada, kui ta on tulemas, et põgeneda. Arutati paljusid plaane, kuid ükski polnud piisavalt hea. Stylistic metaphors fall into trite (are overused) and original metaphors (classified also as genuine and individual metaphors). A trite metaphor is commonly used in speech (e.g. "a ray of hope", "to burn with passion", "a cup of joy"). A trite metaphor may become original if the writer or speaker prolongs it (e.g. "It compelled me to dash a cup of joy from her lips." somebody was rejoicing that something has happened but the speaker wanted to make this person sad). Genuine metaphors are the fruit of author's imagination (e.g. "His lips were tight little traps", "Her voice was a song of castrated delight"). Simple metaphors are based on a single image (e.g. "He felt ice water flowing in his veins"). FGI 1081 Stylistics (I. Ladusseva) 13

Darcy, she left Elizabeth to walk by herself. The path just admitted three. Mr. Darcy felt their rudeness, and immediately said: "This walk is not wide enough for our party. We had better go into the avenue." But Elizabeth, who had not the least inclination to remain with them, laughingly answered: "No, no; stay where you are. You are charmingly grouped, and appear to uncommon advantage. The picturesque would be spoilt by admitting a fourth. Good-bye." She then ran gaily off, rejoicing as she rambled about, in the hope of being at home again in a day or two. Jane was already so much recovered as to intend leaving her room for a couple of hours that evening. Chapter 11 When the ladies removed after dinner, Elizabeth ran up to her sister, and seeing her well guarded from cold, attended her into the drawing-room, where she was welcomed by her two friends with many professions of pleasure; and Elizabeth had never seen them so

ESTONIAN SYMPHONIC MUSIC. THE FIRST CENTURY 1896-1996.

Among the numerous vocal solo compositions the cycle Tiny Songs (Hendrik Adamson, 1891-1946), 1968, was awarded at the Estonia Theatre Concert Pieces contest in the same year. Uno Soomere completed his most extensive and mature composition, the twelve-part Oratorio Song to the Creator (based on Rabindranath Tagore’s poems from the Gitanjali), in 1996, paying with it his homage to the Almighty. Here the animated lyricism of the anguish and pain of human existence intertwine with rejoicing in spiritual improvement, creating a broad psychological vista of the whole being.1 1 The Oratorio was issued as his own publication, 2007, Tallinn. For many years Uno was involved with Estonian Radio as a music critic and broadcasting on Estonian symphonism. His series of essays and lectures on several basic problems of music: Listen, Understand, Evaluate1 and Lectures on the Avant- garde in Music2 were published in 1969. He has also promoted the output of Estonian

Walter Brennan played a gallery of sidekicks, notably supporting John Wayne in Red River. There he goes beyond the usual roles of Ally as provider of comic relief and someone for the hero to talk to. T h e relationship with the Ally can be quite complex, sometimes becoming dramatic material in its own right. A vast body of story has been written and filmed about self-righteous Western lawman W y a t t Earp and his unruly, alcoholic, sickly, but very dangerous Ally, Doc Holliday. corps was to cross to the left bank of the Vistula at Plozk. These details enabled the Germans to maneuver each day as if in a war game. By now the Russians were changing the key to the order of the cipher alphabets—not the alphabets themselves— each day. The cryptanalysts kept pace. On November 18, it appeared that the Germans had won their victory when the cryptanalysts solved a message ordering a Russian retreat from Lodz. But the rejoicing at headquarters was cut short when the codebreakers read a message from Grand Duke Nicholas countermanding the order and directing his forces to fight on despite their difficult position. The flow of radio intelligence continued unabated, and on the 19th Mackensen even delayed giving an order until intercepted information was received. The next day a premonitory fear chilled the intercept services when they picked up a message from a liaison officer of the Russian 4th Army
