This plant has only 2 leaves. The color of lady's slipper flowers varies from yellowish to purplish- brown and are borne at the top of an elongated stalk. One petal of the flower changes into a structure akin to a yellow sac, known as the `slipper'. The herb has a plump rootstock that gives rise to numerous curved stems covered with bristles. The stems bear alternate leaves and typical golden yellow blooms. Lady's slipper is a gorgeous member of the orchid family and possesses a distinctive lower lip that transforms into a blow up pouch that resembles the form of a moccasin. Nii võib mõni lehitu pisikäpa kasvukoht teadmatuse tõttu hävida. Lehitu pisikäpp võib ennast aastaid maapeal mitte näidata, siis aga ilmub välja endisest kasvukohast mitu meetrit eemal. Selline salapärasus ja ka sünge märjavõitu kasvukoht teevad pisikäpast müstilise taime. Kõige paremini on see kajastunud tema inglisekeelses nimes "Ghost orchid". Tõlkes tähendab see kummitusorhideed. Miks elab see taim nii omapärast elu? Asi saab alguse sellest, et lehitul pisikäpal pole ei lehti ega klorofülli. Seega erineb ta enamikest maailma taimedest juba rohelise värvi puudumise tõttu. Kuid klorofüllita taim ei saa ka päikesevalguse energiat püüda. Seega ei ole lehitu pisikäpp võimeline suhkruid tootma. Nii sarnaneb ta rohkem liikumatule maa küljes kinni olevale loomale kui taimele. Seega vajab lehitu pisikäpp elamiseks abilisi
