To Protect or not Protect Minor Languages

Interesting is, that even in Estonia knowing and speaking English has come an expectation not a skill in the younger society, because in many jobs there is required to know a certain amount of English. In my opinion minor languages are the things that make small countries differ from other countries and that is something that people can be proud of. That is a major thing that brings nations closer together and makes people friendlier to each other. It is always nice to see Estonian speakers in foreign countries. It makes you feel safe and secure, when you know that in case of emergency, the people that speak the same language stick together, because that is an instinct of survival for the mankind and if we changed that we might lose all the years of hard work, that have been put to developing the art of speech, but if we can manage the loss of languages and agree on one language, then that might not be a bad idea after all

December was a bad time to start a settlement, especially when so many of them were too sick to do the hard work which founding the settlement required . The minority who were fit enough erected shelters near the beach at Cape Cod for a start, and then set about reconnoitring the hinterland for sustenance. They also introduced the colonists to the turkey, which was native to North America. This aid, however, came too late for half the colonists, who died during their first punishing

may also be decided based on available space (literally the space you have to print the translation – some things will sound more distant and less warm; if you’re angry and you only speak in single word sentences, you increase the distance between you and the person you are speaking to). For instance, in English, the standard text on a medicine container is ‘If symptoms persist consult your doctor’, which is quite rigid and unfriendly sounding, however, if there is more space, a more friendlier version may be printed instead ‘If symptoms do not go away, talk to your doctor about it’. • What are elliptical sentences? Be able to identify ellipsis. Ellipsis means leaving something out. Elliptical sentence is a shorter form of sentence which some words have been omitted, but it retains the same meaning. It is used so that we can avoid unnecessary repeated words. For exmp: A: Where are you going? B: To school. (= I am going to school.) • A: Ready? (= Are you ready

towards one in that mansion; and she lay awake two whole hours endeavouring to make them out. She certainly did not hate him. No; hatred had vanished long ago, and she had almost as long been ashamed of ever feeling a dislike against him, that could be so called. The respect created by the conviction of his valuable qualities, though at first unwillingly admitted, had for some time ceased to be repugnant to her feeling; and it was now heightened into somewhat of a friendlier nature, by the testimony so highly in his favour, and bringing forward his disposition in so amiable a light, which yesterday had produced. But above all, above respect and esteem, there was a motive within her of goodwill which could not be overlooked. It was gratitude; gratitude, not merely for having once loved her, but for loving her still well enough to forgive all the petulance and acrimony of her manner in rejecting him, and all the unjust accusations accompanying her rejection
