Scientists in 1829.They were able to locate the outlines of the temple and found the fragments of the sculpture. The fragments ate still on display today at the Louvre. The next expedition, that came form Germany in 1875, worked at Olympia for five summers. Over that period they were able to map out most of the buildings there. They discovered more fragments of the temple’s sculpture, and located the remains of the pool in the floor that contained the oil fot the statue. In the 1950’s an excavation uncovered the workshop of Phidias which covered beneath an early Christian Church.Archaeologists found sculptor’s tools, a pit fot casting bronze, clay moulds, modelling plaster and even a portion of the elephants tusks which had supplied the ivory for the statue. Today, the stadium at the site has been restored. Little is left of the temple though, except a few columns.Of the statue, which was perhaps the most wonderful work at Olympia, all is gone by now.
Museum was opened here. The extensive reconstruction in 1966-1968 aimed at finding a compromise between the 15th-16th century architecture, the 17th century reconstructions and the needs of a modern museum. New floors of flagstone plates were laid, a heating and running water systems were installed, the stairs were repaired and, to some extent, renovated. The earth part of the bastion outside was made lower in the southern and western sides. In the southern side the excavation was bordered with a protective wall and an entrance was built in this side. It led to the hall and auxiliary rooms. The annex and the original tower were connected by a former embrasure, thus the visitor gets to the first floor. The staircase that takes the visitor upstairs was made during the restoration in 1966-68.

Being around the water offers allure and beauty, which is why waterfront homes are admired by many. Your own backyard can be alive with the visual appeal and sounds of water in motion. These soothing sounds and the beauty of colorful fish swimming among your plants, brings your landscaping alive. It's fun to create this attractive feature and it will become the centerpiece of your backyard. Before we get started I would like to answer some frequently asked questions about backyard ponds. · Will the winter cold kill my fish? Most fish will naturally stop eating and hibernate at the bottom of the pond when the temperature of the water goes below 45 degrees. If you live in a climate where the pond will completely freeze over (even at the edges) you will need to create a hole in the ice for the fish to remain alive. · Will the winter cold kill my plants? Yes, if it goes below freezing in your area. Br...
Brodgar.[citation needed] History Stonehenge itself evolved in several construction phases spanning at least some 1500 years. However there is evidence of large scale construction both before and afterwards on and around the monument that perhaps extends the landscape's time frame to 6500 years. Dating and understanding the various phases of activity at Stonehenge is not a simple task; it is complicated by poorly kept early excavation records, surprisingly few accurate scientific dates and the disturbance of the natural chalk by periglacial effects and animal burrowing. The modern phasing most generally agreed by archaeologists is detailed below. Features mentioned in the text are numbered and shown on the plan, right, which illustrates the site as of 2004. The plan omits the trilithon lintels for clarity. Holes that no longer, or never, contained stones are shown as open circles and stones visible today are shown coloured.
reduce the total space available for development. It is recommended that the soil should remain undisturbed within 25 feet of the perimeter of the trees’ root systems. Consequently, an area of some 185 feet by 320 feet would be excluded from development plans in an effort to preserve the grove of Douglas Fir trees. Preliminary analysis of the site has indicated that it would be feasible to construct three below grade levels. However, structural considerations of excavation and proximity to adjoining buildings may be reviewed. With these parameters in mind, it can be calculated that, for below grade construction alone, there is cubage available to accommodate 273,650 square feet of space in three levels. This assumes that recommended measures would be taken to preserve the Douglas Fir trees, and utilized in the design. The extent of above grade construction is constrained by a desire to limit the maximum height of

Even more likely contacts between Estonia and England date back to the beginning of the second millennium AD. It has been widely acknowledged, that Estonians and Danes often combined forces when attacking larger targets. This would mean that Estonians have made frequent and regular raids to the shores of England. Unfortunately there is no written evidence about these contacts. The only possible source of information is the comparison of coins and pottery found at different excavation sites. 20th century Regular documented contacts between Estonia and English speaking countries begun after Estonia gained its independence in 1918. At that time, England with her colonies was the biggest and the strongest sea power in the world. During the First World War England dominated the high seas and the Baltic Sea. So it is quite obvious that after the Bolsheviks gained power in St. Petersburg, The English navy came to aid the
not have happened without the extensive use of 3D modeling. Regardless of all the 3D modeling done on the Seattle Central Library, the project finished 8 months behind schedule. From Figure 25 it is evident that the deadline slippage was heavily influenced by delays during the detailing and fabrication of the structural steel skeleton. Additional delays are attributable to difficulties demolishing the existing library and utilizing all the asbestos and a delayed notice to proceed. During excavation, the only element remaining from the old library, a 43-ft-deep (13.1 m) foundation wall started moving. It took 4 weeks to strengthen the soil-nail shoring system. Shortly after that, unforeseen site conditions made over excavation necessary causing additional delays for 20 workdays. The start of steel detailing was delayed for 2 months because BDS did not receive an accurate wireframe model on time. The detailer spent a considerable
