Two opposed points of view can be synthesized, retaining the positive element, the truth, of each proposition. - Historical Dialectics: A society carries within it the seeds of its own destruction. Summary of philosophy of right (õiguse filosoofia kokkuvõte)

Social contrackt represents the general will and is in the public interest. Because everyone give away the same amount of freedom to the sovereign, everyone is therefore equal in their freeedom. The best way to govern big territories is not a direct democracy, because it loses too much of its power on it's burocracy. Small citys like hes Geneva, are efficient. Monarchy and aristocracy are a good thing, if not hereditary and democratic. Rousseaus dialectics. Natural man is: in sympathy with others; free from restrictions. Present man is: in conflict with fellow man; in a state of inequality; has a developing reason. To develop, it is necessary to move bact to the previous state, while keeping the virtues of the present. The man of the future will be: reasonable; equal; free; in sympathy with others. The other error is that some people devote too much industry and too deep study to matters that are obscure and difficult and useless as well. If these errors are successfully avoided, all the labour and pains expended upon problems that are morally right and worth the solving will be fully rewarded. Such a worker in the field of astronomy, for example, was Gaius Sulpicius, of whom we have heard; in mathematics, Sextus Pompey, whom I have known personally; in dialectics, many; in civil law, still more. All these professions are occupied with the search after truth; but to be drawn by study away from active life is contrary to moral duty. For the whole glory of virtue is in activity; activity, however, may often be interrupted, and many opportunities for returning to study are opened. Besides, the working of the mind, which is never at rest, can keep us busy in the pursuit of knowledge even without conscious effort on our part. Moreover, all our thought and

ESTONIAN SYMPHONIC MUSIC. THE FIRST CENTURY 1896-1996.

philosophical idea in music in an intense extensive and developing form. Symphonism is a way of thinking through the medium of music and therefore perhaps the most prefect way in its singularity. Only an artist whose inner world is rich in thought and perception and who is endowed with a strong faculty of logical thinking and powerful fantasy, can develop into a symphonist. In symphonism both the dynamics of inner and outer world conflicts, collisions and dialectics springing from the synthesis of opposing forces are revealed. Due to these qualities symphonism becomes apparent in opera, oratorio, concerto and chamber music. However, the broadest opportunities for the method are pronounced in orchestral music. From a historical standpoint we can divide the evolution of Estonian symphonic music into four periods: Russian Empire 1896-1918; Republic of Estonia 1918-1940; Soviet occupation 1940-1991; and the re-established independent Republic of Estonia
