brought armament and other military equipment for Estonia. The United States of America helped Estonia with humanitarian aid. The greatest number of volunteers came from Finland that sent 3,500 men to Estonia; smaller units arrived also from Denmark and Sweden. In turn Estonian helped Latvia in creating her army. In the summer of 1919 two of the three Estonian divisions operated in Northern Latvia, cleaning it from the troops of the Red Army. In June 1919 it lead to an armed conflict with stagnant Baltic Germans who tried to subject Latvia to their power. In the decisive battle under Cesis on June 23 (in Estonian: Võnnu) the Estonian-Latvian forces crushed German resistance. This day is now celebrated as Victory Day in Estonia. In the summer and fall of 1919 war against Soviet Russia already took place on Russian territory. Only in November when the Red Army had beaten the Russian "Whites", it could once again press the front over to Estonian territory
predicted half-life of approximately 19 hours in clean air and about half that time in polluted air. Water When released to water, formaldehyde will biodegrade to low levels in a few days. In nutrient- enriched seawater, there is a long lag period (40 hours) prior to measurable loss of formaldehyde by presumably biological processes. Formaldehyde in aqueous effluent is degraded by activated sludge and sewage in 4872 hours. In a die-away test, using water from a stagnant lake, degradation was complete in 30 hours under aerobic conditions and 48 hours under anaerobic conditions. Bhattacharya and Parkin used anaerobic chemostats to study fate and kinetic effects of sludge and continuous additions of formaldehyde to acetate and propionate enrichment systems. The high reduction of formaldehyde with continuous addition is indicative of biodegradation, since the combination of volatilization, adsorption, and chemical transformation should account for less than
campaign were recruited from India *The campaign of the Western Front Following the outbreak of World War I the German army opened the Western Front by first invading Luxembourg and Belgium. This line remained essentially unchanged for most of the war. There were several major offensives along this front. In an effort to break the deadlock, this front saw the introduction of new military technology, including poison gas, aircraft, and tanks. In spite of the generally stagnant nature of this front, this theater would prove decisive. The advance of the Allied armies persuaded the German commanders that defeat was inevitable, and the government was forced to ask for conditions of an armistice (relvarahu). *The campaign for the Irish Home Rule in the C19 and C20 The Irish Home Rule were bills introduced in the British House of Commons during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, intended to grant self-government and national autonomy to the whole of Ireland.
Figure 1.1 Labour productivity index for US construction industry and all non-farm industries from 1964 through 2003, source Teicholz 2003. Figure 1.1 shows that the construction industrys productivity has declined over the last four decades, while the productivity of non-farm industries has more than doubled. This means that more work per one dollar needs to be carried out in 2004 than needed to be carried out in 1960 to achieve the same results. The problem of stagnant productivity has been seen to be associated with the slow adoption of new and improved business practices and technologies. Construction has also been seen as a wasteful process. The Construction Industry Institute (CII) in co- operation with the Lean Construction Institute (2004) have estimated that there is up to 57% of non- value adding (NVA) effort or waste in our current business models, but in manufacturing the percentage is only 12%

Imitation, borrowing and adoption in the arts may demean and overshadow our national capabilities. A sober look at the whole condition, disavowing stagnant fashionable viewpoints was offered by conductor Andres Mustonen: Painful processes have taken place in the 20th century. It is consoling, though, that all what has arisen of considered valuable during our long music history, endured, being impossible to destroy. The 20th century turned away from the primary sources, the changes have rather taken place on the surface. The century has been expanding for the new, all the time disclaiming the former at the same time
in folklore and fairy tales. PSYCHOLOGICAL FUNCTION Tricksters serve several important psychological functions. T h e y cut big egos down to size, and bring heroes and audiences down to earth. By provoking healthy laughter they help us realize our common bonds, and they point out folly and hypocrisy. Above all, they bring about healthy change and transformation, often by drawing attention to the imbalance or absurdity of a stagnant psychological situation. T h e y are the natural enemies of the status quo. Trickster energy can express itself through impish accidents or slips of the tongue that alert us to the need for change. W h e n we are taking ourselves too seriously, the Trickster part of our personalities may pop up to bring back needed perspective. 77 T H E W R I T E R ' S JOURNEY ~ T H I R D EDITION
