Jazzis sai saksofon hääleõiguse alles kolmekümndendatel. Alguses peeti saksofoni mängijaid kummalisteks kujudeks ja saksofoni seostati rohkem magusa tantsumuusika, kui jazziga. Kuni viiekümnendateni puudus saksofonil jazzis oma ajalugu. Jazzis kasutati peamiselt sopran-, alt-, tenor- ja baritonsaksofoni. (Jazziraamat, 1999) Esimene tähtsaim saksofoniansambel ajaloos oli asutatud aastal 1976 David Murray, Julius Hemphill, Hamiet Bluiett ja Oliver Lake poolt, ning see kandis nime World Saxophone Quartet(WSQ). Kuigi kaua aega enne seda oli veel saksofoniansambleid tehtud ei löönud teised nii hästi läbi. World Saxophone Quartetil õnnestus muuta ,,eksootiline" ja ,,ebatavaline" kooslus institutsiooniks ja lausa iseseisvaks instrumentaalseks zanriks. Markus Eermann Jazz flute, on a jazzscale is quite a new phenomenon. There are early ragtime arrangement where flute and piccolo was used but due to having low volume, it didnt emerge as a solo instrument before the fifties after the electronic amplification was invented. Nowadays, thanks to the microphones, arrangers and composers have started to use flute on a regular basis(f.e saxophone players in big bands are required to play 2 instruments(double), most cases(Clarinet and Flute).Before 50s though, it had little use because of the low volume, Dancing halls and jazz clubs in 20s to 40s required a loud solo instrument to fill a big hall (Trumper, Saxophone) Although, we know jazzflute started to emerge in 20s.
