Captain Walton's introductory frame narrative The novel Frankenstein is written in epistolary form, documenting a correspondence between Captain Robert Walton and his sister, Margaret Walton Saville. Walton is a failed writer who sets out to explore the North Pole and expand his scientific knowledge in hopes of achieving fame. During the voyage the crew spots a dog sled mastered by a gigantic figure. A few hours later, the crew rescues a nearly frozen and emaciated man named Victor Frankenstein. Frankenstein has been in pursuit of the gigantic man observed by Walton's crew. Frankenstein starts to recover from his exertion; he sees in Walton the same over-ambitiousness and recounts a story of his life's miseries to Walton as a warning. Victor Frankenstein's narrative Victor begins by telling of his childhood. Born into a wealthy family in Geneva, he is encouraged to
association fallacy. What can happen according to such reasoning is that an incorrect understanding of a situation causes for a certain new behaviour, which makes the original incorrect understanding true. The believer of the original understanding will present the series of events to prove that they were right from the beginning. In the case of torture and the saving of innocent lives, this would mean that the wrong understanding that torture rescues lives leads to the event of torture, because of which lives were saved and thus the original erroneous understanding becomes true. This so to say then proves that torture indeed does save lives. This leads to a self-fulfilling prophecy, prone to become institutionalized on its own (Driver, 2014). Torture almost always goes paired with the idea that it serves a higher purpose. Foucault elaborates on this, describing the confirmation of absolute sovereign power obtained by

Having survived death, beaten the dragon, or slain the Minotaur, hero and audience have cause to celebrate. T h e hero now takes possession of the treasure she has come seeking, her Reward. It might be a special weapon like a magic sword, or a token like the Grail or some elixir which can heal the wounded land. Sometimes the "sword" is knowledge and experience that leads to greater understanding and a reconciliation with hostile forces. In Star Wars , Luke rescues Princess Leia and captures the plans of the Death Star, keys to defeating Darth Vader. Dorothy escapes from the W i c k e d Witch's castle with the Witch's broomstick and the ruby slippers, keys to getting back home. At this point the hero may also settle a conflict with a parent. In Return of the Jedi, Luke is reconciled with Darth Vader, who turns out to be his father and not such a bad guy after all.
