In 1792, Versailles was abandoned. All of the furniture was sold and all the art was brought to museums. The palace was left empty. The French government decided to open up the palace as a museum, during the 1830's. In 1962, all of the belongings of the palace that could be located were brought back and the palace has almost been completely restored back to its original self. Also the gardens and statues have been restored, and more then 80 of the rooms have been remodeled and decorated. They are now open to the public. Today Versailles is one of the greatest tourist centers in France. The palace serves as a residence for visiting foreign leaders. Facts The palace has 2,153 windows, 67 staircases. It was just so interesting to us. We missed working on crafts class and doing things with our own hands. We think that we achieved our goals that we set for ourselves. Those goals were: 1. To give a view of making it; 2. Used materials; 3. Different making stages of the shelf; 4. To give a view of its components; 5. To make something unique Making a shelf took a massive amount of our time making it, but it was totally worth it.
