ungodliness of the theatres, and they were occasionally closed. The Puritan influence that forced the occasional closing of the theaters was symptomatic of what was to come. The increasing strength of the predominantly Puritan middle class in the House of Commons during the reign of James I and his son Charles I, made confrontation inevitable. A civil war broke out in 1642 between Royalists and Roundheads (puritans). With the outbreak of the Puritan revolution, literature polarized. The theatre remained a popular form of entertainment until the Puritan government closed all the playhouses in 1649. The greatest of the Puritan poets was John Milton. Sightless, he composed Paradise Lost, his greatest work and the only successful English Epic. The Renaissance 1500 1650: background 1. What does the word ,,renaissance mean? be good, and fly in pink bubbles instead of on broomsticks. Another Test of the hero is how quickly she can adjust to the new rules o f the Special World. At this stage a Western may impose certain conditions on people entering a town or a bar. In Unforgiven, guns cannot be worn in the sheriff's territory. T h i s re striction can draw the hero into conflicts. A hero may enter a bar to discover that the town is totally polarized by two factions: the cattlemen vs. the farmers, the Earps vs. the Clantons, the bounty hunters vs. the sheriff, and so on. In the pressure cooker of the saloon, people size each other up and take sides for the coming showdown. T h e cantina sequence in Star Wars draws on the images we all have o f Western saloons as places for reconnaissance, challenges, alliances, and the learning of new rules. WATERING HOLES
D. The optical train -- three beam pick-up The most common optical train in modern CD players is the three beam pick-up, depicted below[4]. The light is emitted by the laser diode and enters a diffraction grating. The grating converts the light into a central peak plus side peaks. The main central peak and two side peaks are important in the tracking mechanis The three beams go through a polarizing beam splitter. This only transmits polarizations parallel to the page. The emerging light (now polarized parallel to the page) is then collimated. The collimated light goes through a 1/4 wave plate. This converts it into circularly polarized light. The circularly polarized light is then focused down onto the disk. If the light strikes "land" it is reflected back into the objective lens. (If the light strikes the pit, now a bump, it is not reflected.) The light then passes through the 1/4 wave plate again. Since it is going the reverse direction, it will be polariz
In Tubin’s extended tonality, the quartal harmony has an important place. The tonal centre A frames the whole work. The whole sphere of harmony is mild. The Ninth Symphony is connected more with homeland than the former. Due to the beauty of thoughts and balance of form the work can be considered among the best achievements of Tubin. Arnolds Klotinsh commented: ...I can sense the originality of the composer in the fruitful unity of two polarized germs: from one side an incessant flow of ideas and images that are dramatic and extrinsic to the music, from the other side abundance of such intrinsic elements which may be called specifically musical, the pulsation of gripping and somewhat playful sound forms and inexhaustible inventiveness. The dramatic-substantial saturation of Tubin’s symphonism reveals 1
