1857. aastal alustada uue ajalehe ,,Perno Postimees" väljaandmist. Juba selle avaluuletus ,, Tere, armas Eesti rahvas" oli uus kvaliteet. Lehte tsenseeriti erakordselt rangelt. Uue 6 ajastu saabumist tõendas kõige kujukamalt lehe enneolematult ulatuslik levik ning seda küllaltki ühtlaselt kogu Eestis. 1862. aastaks oli ,,Perno Postimehel" üle 2200 tellija, lehte lugs aga mitu korda rohkem inimesi. J. V. Janseni üleskutsed talude päriseksostmiseks leidsid laia kõlapinda. Samas aga ajas ,,Perno Posimees" asja väga ettevaatlikult, peljates kõiki veidigi radikaalsemaid ettevõtmisi. Seetõttu ei leidnud J. V. Janseni ,,Perno Postimees" tekkiva rahvusliku haritlaskonna poolt sugugi mitte alati toetust. Olid ju 1860. aastate alguseks Eestis ja väljaspoolegi tekkinud mitmeid väiksemaid rahvusteadvuse levikut õhutavaid keskusi.
