Modernism Modernism (prantsuse moderne 'uudne', 'nüüdisaegne') on ühine nimetaja modernsetele kirjanduse, kunsti jm ühiskondlik-kultuurilise tegevuse suundadele, mis kerkisid esile valgustuse ideede jõudmisega üldisesse kultuuripraktikasse 19. sajandi teisel poolel ning nende omaksvõtmise ja sellega kaasnevate raskustega, mis said keskseks teemaks 20. sajandi esimesel poolel.
