SUSTAINABILITY REPORTING GUIDELINES

Intensity Ratios - Intensity ratios express an impact per unit of activity or unit of value. A declining intensity ratio reflects performance improvement. Examples of intensity ratios include:  emission intensity;  waste intensity; and  resource intensity. Percentages - Organisations regularly use ratios expressed in percentage terms. A percentage indicator is a ratio between two like issues, with the same physical unit in the numerator and denominator. Examples of percentages that can be meaningful for use in performance reports include:  input/output ratios;  losses;  recycling percentages ;  fractions;  quotas; and  financial performance ratios. 16 8. SUMMARY In Estonia many company’s are joining with ISO 9000 and ISO 14 000. ISO 9000 is a quality performance reporting and ISO 14 000 is environmental performance reporting. New

Journal entries for VOH cost and variances - page 267. Fixed overhead flexible-budget variance is the difference between actual FOH and FOH in the flexible budget. Flexible budget amount is the same as in static budget, because fixed costs are unaffected by changes in the output level within the relevant range. There is no efficiency variance for FOH. FOH spending variance is the same amount as the FOH flexible-budget variance. Production volume variance arises only for fixed costs, denominator level variance, difference between budgeted FOH and FOH allocated on the basis of actual output produced. Production volume var = budgeted FOH - FOH allocated for actual output units produced. Chapter 11 - Relevant costs Managers usually follow a decision model for choosing among different courses of action. A decision model is a formal method of making a choice, and it often involves both quantitative and qualitative analyses. Five-step decision-making process to make decisions (Ch1).

complexity. The high-level nature of the scene graph makes Java 3D code harder to tune for speed, unlike OpenGL/DirectX. However, a programmer does have the option of moving to the mixed or immediate modes of coding if absolutely necessary. Similarly, the hiding of the low-level graphics API makes it harder for a programmer to code around bugs in the APIs or the drivers. Since Java 3D is available on top of OpenGL and DirectX, it is forced to offer a common denominator of features from both APIs. For example, this is why vertex and pixel shading is absent. However, Java 3D version 1.4 is scheduled to allow extensions to its core features, in a similar vein to extensions in OpenGL. Java 3D requires the installation of Java and a graphics API, which can easily amount to 10-20MB on a hard disk. This is a serious concern when attempting to port Java 3D to consoles, but a problem that will disappear in a few years as the next generation of consoles appear.

ESTONIAN SYMPHONIC MUSIC. THE FIRST CENTURY 1896-1996.

They proceeded in different directions. These young musicians ponder upon world problems: the horrors of war; the future of mankind; the place of Man in the universe; submerging into their own inner world and into the modern and humdrum city life. They are in search of inner peace and equilibrium in the bosom of nature, attempting to mark contemporary music with its natural origins. There are also echoes of the painful and seemingly hopeless near past. The common denominator in this search and discovering is the growing importance of the philosophical idea, expressed vividly, colourfully and dramatically by Eduard Tubin, Arvo Pärt, Heimar Ilves, Eino Tamberg, Helmut Rosenvald among others. The philosophical and ethical aspects of life rose in all their sharpness in the whole of artistic production. The artist concealed neither his personality nor his own conception of the world. All Estonian art was evolving in the process of expanding its

CHANGE YOUR THINKING CHANGE YOUR LIFE

As information and technology continue to expand and mul- tiply times each other, and competition continues to intensify, more and more opportunities are opening up every day for the creative minority who are willing to take advantage of them. Your job is to find these opportunities, and if you don’t find them, cre- ate them for yourself. ■ THE COMMON DENOMINATOR One of the discoveries in the research on self-made millionaires is the finding that most of them start off with little or no money. Most of them start off by saving their money carefully for a long time un- til they have enough to start a small enterprise or business. Some of the biggest companies in America were started on a kitchen table or in a garage, like the Hewlett-Packard Company or Apple Com- puter

a universal human need to be touched. Even though Joe Buck engaged in some pretty sleazy behavior, we sympathize with his need because we have all experienced it at 90 T H E ORDINARY W O R L D some time. Identification with universal needs establishes a bond between audience and hero. T H E H E R O ' S LACK Fairy tale heroes have a common denominator, a quality that unites them across boundaries of culture, geography, and time. T h e y are l a c k i n g something, or some thing is taken away from them. Often they have just lost a family member. A mother or father has died, or a brother or sister has been kidnapped. Fairy tales are about searching for completeness and striving for wholeness, and often it's a subtraction from the family unit that sets the story in motion. T h e need to fill in the missing

this structure assists and confirms the successive "corrections" that constitute a cryptanalysis. But how does the cryptanalyst begin in the first place? In correcting a typographical error, all the redundant elements lie in plain view, ready for use. With a cryptogram, they are obscured. The cryptanalyst begins by breaking these elements down to their atomic form—letters. He then compares them to the redundant elements of a language that have been reduced to the same common denominator. In order words, he takes a frequency count of the letters of the cryptogram and matches it against a frequency count of the letters of the assumed plaintext language. (These counts must sometimes be modified by the conditions of the cipher. In polyalphabetics, a count must be made for each alphabet; in digraphics, the count must be of pairs. If the cryptogram is in code, the atomic forms are words, but the same principle applies.)
