Она называется The Chasm Companion. Без сомнения, написание книг о пропасти, а также чтение этих книг стало своего рода надомным промыслом, и технологический сектор продемонстрировал завидное терпение, переваривая бесконечную череду метафор – сравнений с кегельбаном и торнадо, гориллами,

Suspension bridges Although suspension bridges had been known in China as early as 206 BC, the first chain suspension bridge did not appear in Europe until 1741, when the 70ft (21m) span Winch Bridge was constructed over a chasm of the River Tees (UK), with the flooring laid directly on two chains. It was an American, James Finley, however, who built the first practical suspension bridge in 1796 in the USA. This was a bridge over Jacobs Creek near Uniontown, Pennsylvania, which Finley described as a "stiffened" bridge in an article he published in Portfolio in 1810. The span displayed all the essential elements of the modern suspension bridge: a level deck hung from a catenary
Was it simply for your friend's sake? Was there someone else? I knew I had no right to care either way. I tried not to care. "And then the line started forming," he chuckled. I scowled in the darkness. "I waited, unreasonably anxious to hear what you would say to them, to watch your expressions. I couldn't deny the relief I felt, watching the annoyance on your face. But I couldn't be sure. "That was the first night I came here. I wrestled all night, while watching you sleep, with the chasm between what I knew was right, moral, ethical, and what I wanted. I knew that if I continued to ignore you as I should, or if I left for a few years, till you were gone, that someday you would say yes to Mike, or someone like him. It made me angry. "And then," he whispered, "as you were sleeping, you said my name. You spoke so clearly, at first I thought you'd woken. But you rolled over restlessly and mumbled my name once more, and sighed. The
Hate mail abounded. and not going pure 100% vegan. Hate mail abounded. As usual, the extremists on both sides were missing the point. It was an experiment, not a moral statement, and there were valuable lessons to be learned by purists from both sides. For the militant vegans, the primary lesson is that omnivores can quickly transition to a near- vegan PPBD if they make some allowances for protein (such as two to three eggs per day). If this compromise isn't allowed, crossing the chasm can take months and, more often than not, never happens. For the omnivores and carnivores, the bene ts of considering a vegan diet are multifold, even if it's just a thought experiment: If I couldn't eat any animal products for 28 days, what would I eat? John summarizes a few areas where proper vegans (the organized and informed minority) trump 99% of meat-eaters: "Proper vegans tend to eat more whole, natural, locally produced, and unprocessed foods than most omnivores
