Use of land Australia has many forests of importance due to significant features, despite being one of the driest continents. Australia has approximately 147 million hectares of native forest which represents some 19% of land use. Mining in Australia is a significant primary industry and contribut to the Australian economy. Historically, mining booms have also encouraged immigration to Australia. Many different ores and minerals are mined throughout the country. Much of the raw material mined in Australia is exported overseas to countries such as China for processing into refined product.
