Suhkur Suhkur kui looduslik energiaallikas on organismile kahtlemata vajalik, kuid seda vaid väikeses koguses. Enamik inimesi sööb suhkrut liiga palju. Organism vajab suhkrut mitte rohkem kui 90 g ehk 18% päevasest toiduenergiast. Piirata tuleb eelkõige just lisatava suhkru hulka, kuna seda sisaldavad toidud (kondiitritooted, karastusjoogid jms) annavad tihti n-ö tühja energiat ­ st need sisaldavad küll palju energiat, kuid vähe vitamiine ja mineraalaineid. Sageli on rohkelt suhkrut sisaldavates toodetes ka palju rasva. Liigne suhkrutarbimine võib põhjustada hambakaariest. Suhkrud võib jagada looduslikult esinevateks ja lisatavateks suhkruteks. · Looduslikult esinevad suhkrud näiteks puuviljades, köögiviljades, piimas ja mees.
