Suhkur Suhkur kui looduslik energiaallikas on organismile kahtlemata vajalik, kuid seda vaid väikeses koguses. Enamik inimesi sööb suhkrut liiga palju. Organism vajab suhkrut mitte rohkem kui 90 g ehk 18% päevasest toiduenergiast. Piirata tuleb eelkõige just lisatava suhkru hulka, kuna seda sisaldavad toidud (kondiitritooted, karastusjoogid jms) annavad tihti n-ö tühja energiat st need sisaldavad küll palju energiat, kuid vähe vitamiine ja mineraalaineid. Sageli on rohkelt suhkrut sisaldavates toodetes ka palju rasva. Liigne suhkrutarbimine võib põhjustada hambakaariest.
