Undertook foreign tours, visited high unempolyment areas, became popular Had many affairs with married women, fell in love with Wallis Simpson, the american businessman´s wife. Advisors did not believe that Edward, the Head of the Church should marry a divorced woman. Edward abdicated the throne in favour of his younger brother George VI He became the Duke of Windsor and went to exile in France, there was much bitterness between him and his family. He died of throat cancer  World War II 1939-1945
