Paljude suurlinnadest tulnud turistide jaoks võib eeliseks lugeda ka rahulikku linna-ja maakeskkonda, kus on neil võimalik eemale saada linnamürast. Viljandi suureks eeliseks on veel paljude rabade, metsade ja looduskaunite paikade olemasolu. Rolli mängib ka paljud sihtkoha kultuuri edasikandmise võimalused. Viljandis on ka mõningaid puudusi turismivaldkonnas. Suureks puuduseks on tegevusvähesus lastele. Mänguväljakuid on loodud palju, kuid puudu jääb omapärastest lastele suunatud turismikohtadest. Samuti on märkimisväärseks saanud teede ning viitade seisukord ja puudus. Paljudes maal asuvatest turismisihtkohtades on puudu tolmuvaba teekate ja üldine seisukord pole kiita. Ka Viljandi linna teede seisukord ei ole muljet avaldav. Lisaks teedeke on puudus välja koolitatud tööjõust turismivaldkonnas. See on probleem nii ettevõtjate kui turistide jaoks.
