It might have been a long time ago when it was written, but I haven't heard of a similar idea such as the starting point of the events. In the beginning Dorian was a young undamaged simple boy and I think that Basil was right to have the wish to prevent Dorian meeting Harry. When Dorian hears the ideas that Harry has for life of pleasure, beauty and youth, he adopts them immediately.
