Factories meant more work for
people but the conditions were inhuman. By the end of the 18th century Britain was the most
industrialised country enjoying an international trade boom.
During the late 18th century a huge network of canals and railways were built.
Telegraph lines, magazines and newspapers became a part of every day.
In the 1840s, when Britain was struck by famine, millions of citizens had to live in
overcrowded tenements and their work regimes came close to slavery.
