Kaheksakanna kui populaarse ornamendi tähendus Eestis läbi aegade
The
main decoration for things were ornaments, which often had a certain meaning. The second
subchapter talks about handicraft today. It came out that nowadays many young people do not
deal with handicraft at all. Also using ornaments as decoration has fallen. However, many
people still know that ornaments had a certain meaning and ornaments have become popular
in professional art.
Second main chapter provides information about «kaheksakand» and is divided into three
subchapters. First subchpater talks about the origin of the ornament and how it came to the
folk art of Estonia. Second one talks about the meanings of the ornament in past. It came out
that «kaheksakand» meant protection, luck, home and spirituality. In Christianity the
ornament symbolises the Star of Petlemma and also the reborning of Christ. Final supchapter
provides information about the meanings of «kaheksakand» today. The people surveyd knew
little about the meaning of it
