cubicles in kitchens or bathrooms without the necessary hydro insulation and ventilation
causes damage through mould or fungi.
Empty and unheated apartments are a big problem in wooden apartment buildings. The
apartments adjacent to these had extensive mould damage in the bathroom/shower
rooms which were adjoined to the cold walls.
In the examined buildings, there were no problems in the stairwells, except in buildings
that had stone stairwells and there was mould damage on the walls and ceiling of the
stairwell.
Windows with PVC frames had mould damage in the lower part of the windows and in the
lower corners of the frames. In all cases of wood frame windows that had been sealed
with silicone there was mould damage without exception on the layer of silicone. In a few
cases the mould had spread to adjoining wooden surfaces.
