It was in the
household of Mary I that Catherine Parr caught the attention of the King. After the death of

*Thomas Cromwell and the dissolution of the monasteries was an English statesman
who served as King Henry VIII's chief minister. Cromwell supported Henry VIII to make
himself head of the English Church. Henry had him, to "visit" all the monasteries, ostensibly
to make sure their members were instructed in the new rules for their supervision by the King
instead of the Pope, but in reality to inventory their assets. He encouraged the king to re-
marry after Jane's premature death
