accession. As a Moslem secular country, Turkey will also add a new demographic and religious dimension to the EU. Also, the presence of a large number of Turkish immigrants in European countries raises the issue of possible additional migration, as a natural consequence of accession, which may affect the labor market and demography of small member states. The social repercussions of such a development raise sensitivities and pose challenges with political ramifications (Joseph, J.S., 2006). TURKEY'S LOCATION The strategic location of Turkey presents a unique challenge to the EU's external role and policies as "it lies at the epicenter of a series of conflicts, real and potential" in the region. Turkish accession will bring closer to the EU the instability and tensions of a strategically vital region with strong, conflicting energy-related interests. The

What is needed, however, is paradigm shift from understanding the concept of developmentally appropriate art education in terms of curricula targeting children's actual levels of attainment to that of creating environments that allow children to perform within their "zones of proximal development" (Vygotsky, 1978). This shift can take place only if we free ourselves from the cultural baggage of romanticized notions of child art and accept that while certainly can appeal to our aesthetic sensitivities and emotions, there are other territories of pictorial worlds that children should be free to explore, encouraged to learn about , and provided with assistance to master. Our love of children's natural creative efforts should not become detrimental to their artistic growth in the broadest sense of the term. This revised conception of human development in the area of the pictorial extends the discourse to a new territory inclusive of a wide range of manifestations of visual culture

Psühholoogia bioloogiline-, kognitiivne- ja sotsiaalne vaade

This is the principle of Charles Darwin's theory of evolution. Evolutionary psychology is grounded on the principle that as genes mutate, those that are advantageous are passed down through natural selection. One example of evolutionary research is the study of emotions. Fessler has carried out research on disgust. He argues that the emotion of disgust allowed our ancestors to survive long enough to produce offspring, who in turn passed the same sensitivities to us. He investigated nausea experienced by women in their first trimester of pregnancy. During this period, certain hormones lower the level of the mother's immune system, so the body will not fight the new foreign genetic material in her womb. Fessler hypnotized that the nausea response helps to compensate the suppressed immune system. He gathered almost 500 healthy pregnant women and asked them to consider potentially stomach-turning scenarios. He found that women

patterns could be triggered by the presence of a lone stimulus feature-a cheep- cheep sound, a shade of red breast feather, or a specific sequence of light flashes. The reason these lower animals must often rely on such solitary stimulus features of their environments is their restricted mental capacity. Their small brains cannot begin to register and process all of the relevant information in their environments. So these species have evolved special sensitivities to certain aspects of the infor- mation. Because those selected aspects of information are normally enough to cue a correct response, the system is usually very efficient: Whenever a mother turkey hears cheep, cheep, click, whirr, out rolls the proper maternal behavior in a me- PRIMITIVE AUTOMATICITY chanical fashion that conserves much of her limited brainpower for dealing with
