1989 aastal valis tollane Division of Counseling Psychology president Naomi Meara iga-aastase
konverentsi teemaks "ühendatud erinevused" (Unified diversity).
1991 aastal sõnastas oma presidendi kõnes põhimõtted järgmisekssajandiks tollane Division of
Counseling Psychologypresident James Hurst:
- There prevails a deep sense of respect of persons for each other. People really do matter and are
targets of dignity.
- The scientists and practioners among us like each other they have a healthy interdependence.
- We celebrate our diversity within our core of inner sameness.
- We rally around the common cause of facilitating growth processes in persons and environments.
