LÄÄNE-EESTI VETE LESTA
(Cucullanellus) minutus, Cucullanus heterochrous, Contracaecum osculatum,
Raphidascaris acus; Trematoda Diplostomum spathaceum, Cryptocotyle concava;
Acanthocephala Corynosoma sp., Pomphorhynchus laevis, Acanthocephalus
anguillae; Cestoda Schistocephalus pungitii.
The parasitic helminths found are both not specific and very host-specific parasites of
flounders and the fishes serve as a definitive, intermediate or paratenic host
Trematodes Cryptocotyle concava was the most abundant parasite, although less
numerous in spring. Its definitive host is a fish eating bird and flounder serves as
intermediate host.
Two species of Corynosoma (Acanthocephala) were found in the prevalence of 42 %
both in autumn and in spring. Flounder and various fish act as paratenic host,
transferring the parasite juveniles to their definitive host, the seal.
