Stress

But as we move further and further from our natural habitat, stress becomes more of nuisance than a lifesaver. Things that cause stress to the modern man are nothing compared to the problems that troubled our ancestors. Few hundred years ago the average european was still worrying about his livestock being looted. But we feel that a Powerpoint presentation that is due tomorrow is something that threatens our existance. Stress can cause some people unnecessary anxiety that paralyzes them and is an impediment to action. That is the opposite of the motivational stress that forces us to act. Stress causes changes in the organism´s chemical composition. So does puberty. The result of that is a anxious teenager, who thinks that his or her life will certainly come to an end if his or her shoes don´t resemble the footwear of his or her adolescent companions. 2 3 Caffeine (C8H10N4O2) is the common name for trimethylxanthine (systematic name is 1,3,7- 4 trimethylxanthine or 3,7-dihydro-1,3,7-trimethyl-1H-purine-2,6-dione). The chemical is also 5 known as coffeine, theine, mateine, guaranine, or methyltheobromine. It is added to colas and other soft 11 drinks to impart a pleasing bitter note. However, caffeine is also an addictive stimulant. In 12 humans, it stimulates the central nervous system, heart rate, and respiration, has psychotropic

plate another man was holding under his chin. Occasionally the wheelchair- bound man would produce unintelligible croaking sounds, and someone would hold an ear close to his mouth and then amazingly would interpret what he was trying to say. Later I asked my friend whether he know who he was. “Of course,” he said, “He is a professor of mathematics, and the people with him are his graduate students. He has motor neuron disease that progressively paralyzes every part of the body. He has been given five years at the most. It must be the most dreadful fate that can befall a human being.” A few weeks later, as I was leaving the building, he was coming in, and when I held the door open for his electric wheelchair to come trough, our eyes met. With surprise I saw that his eyes were clear. There was no trace in them of unhappiness. I know immediately he had relinquished resistance; he was living in surrender.
