Severin writes that "Mabbe's Jacobean style appears somewhat overwrought by comparison to the austerity of the original model, and is in fact quite a bit longer because of Mabbe's tendency to overexplain and to find synonymous words with which to amplify the text" (Severin p XV). The Jacobean style of literature are the works written during the reign of King James I of England.
