Every weapon of cryptanalytic science—which in the stratospheric realm of this solution drew heavily upon mathematics, using group theory, congruences, Poisson distributions—was thrown into the fray.

Essay about Chinese language taking over English

Will Chinese become more important than English in the near future? As David Graddol, a visiting professor in Hong Kong, says in "Will Chinese take over from English as the world's most important language?", he must often answer the questions concerning Chinese importance over English. Graddol states that China's economy is growing and it is already second in the world. In fact, it has become the largest exporter and first in energy consumption. In addition, China will presumably be the largest manufacturer soon. However, he questions whether Chinese language grows at the same pace as its economy. Graddol's teaching in Hong Kong starts with a lecture called "World Englishes". He notes that he

Why did I choose university education over vocational training?

Now as we have a lot of free higher education available, many people tend to use this wonderful opportunity. Although it might seem a great way to start building your way towards future career, it might not be the best way. Why? Because we have reached the stage where we have more people with higher education than we have jobs that require that kind of educational degree. To fix the issue, numerous studies have been carried out and many of them recommend choosing vocational training over universities or going to the university only if you have plans for your future career. Relying on the last point before mentioned I have to say that I chose university education over vocational education because I have had a dream of becoming a real estate developer and broker since my early childhood and there was no specialty available that would support my dream job. Also, in Estonia the ones who are not the sharpest pencils in the drawer and just want to learn some specialty often choose

Locke essay

lead to tyranny. Locke's theory of limited government is more progressive, as opposed to Hobbes account, as it is the majority will that is the supreme power, but it is important to ask who the majority is as this remains a valid question. Around the time of Locke's major works only certain groups within British society were allowed to take part in the democratic process, these were male landowners and men who could afford to rent property over a certain rateable value. During the 18th century, the House of Commons did not come close to representing the actual distribution of the population and wealth across the country. The system was synonymous with corruption and bribery and according to Thompson (1963, pp. 888 - 901) the "rotten boroughs" such as Gatton in Surrey had only seven voters and returned two members of parliament. The franchise was only available to an elite

Tsunaamid

TSUNAMI Kristjan Sillaots G1R2 WHAT IS TSUNAMI? A tsunami is a series of ocean waves that sends surges of water, sometimes reaching heights of over 100 feet (30.5 meters), onto land. These walls of water can cause widespread destruction when they crash ashore. WHAT CAUSES A TSUNAMI? These awe-inspiring waves are typically caused by large, undersea earthquakes at tectonic plate boundaries. When the ocean floor at a plate boundary rises or falls suddenly, it displaces the water above it and launches the rolling waves that will become a tsunami. WHAT CAUSES A TSUNAMI? Tsunamis may also be caused by underwater landslides or volcanic eruptions. They may even be launched, as they frequently were in Earth’s ancient past, by the impact of a large meteorite plunging into an ocean. ...

EUTHANASIA

in dying is one of them. The issue is too sensitive to come to a smple conclusion. The basic question is : should a person who is terminally ill and who feels that their life is not worth living, who is repeatedly asking for euthanasia and who is of sound mind be given assistance in dying so that they could do it in a dignified manner rather than have their lives prolonged by medical technology? Ultimately, it's a question of choice: empowering people to have control over their own bodies. The main opposition comes from religious groups, medical associations whose members see practising euthanasia as an inproper exctension of their role as carers. Throughout centuries the doctors' purpose in life has been to cure suffering, how can they be expected to do otherwise, even if it's done for a good cause. The issue has been misinterpreted by some people. They seem to be of the opinion that

Film review “Scent of a Woman“ 1992 by Martin Brest

Film review "Scent of a Woman" 1992 by Martin Brest Scent of a Woman is the story of Frank Slade, a blind, retired army colonel who hires Charlie Simms, a poor college student on the verge of expulsion, to take care of him over Thanksgiving weekend. At the beginning of the weekend, Frank takes Charlie to New York, where he reveals to the student that he intends to visit his family, have a few terrific meals, sleep with a beautiful woman and, finally, commit suicide. Over the weekend, as they learn about life through their series of adventures, they start trusting eachother. Two absolute favourite scenes: The first is in the New York ballroom where the blind Lt. Colonel teaches a lady to dance the tango. It is so smooth and dramatic that even a couch potato is tempted to dance along. The second and most profound is the speech that Al Pacino makes in defense of Charlie at the prep school disciplinary hearing. It has to go

Sally woke up in the morning; she looked at the clock and realized that she has been late to the work. She shook a leg - took a shower, grabbed a sandwich, hopped into her car and drove away. Then she almost ran over a stranger man. She braked the car and blew the horn. Then she realized that it was Michael, a nice handsome guy from the beach party at last weekend. If it's not one thing, it's another. She stooped out of the car window to apologize. She had to hurry but wanted to be nice and polite. She said, "Sorry, Michael I didn't noticed you, are you okay?" "Yes, but I will be better if you'll come out with me tonight, would you?" asked Michael. "Sure!" "Well, then I'll come and pick you up at 7pm

What is expected of a graduate of the 21st century

Kaisa Kamenik In Mike Nichols 1967 cult film „The Graduate“, Dustin Hoffman character Benjamin Braddock, who has just graduated from college, is facing basically same questions as posed in the title of this essay. Everyone is asking what is he going to do with his life now, but he is very uncomfortable aswering them and at that point he doesn’t care as well. Being a third year history student in University of Tartu, I am wondering over the same questions and find myself often thinking what is expected of me after graduating and how has university played a role in my development for almost three years now. When asked what is the main purpose of university, most people would say that it is preparing students for different proffessions, which would later be the driving force of the country. But I think it is more complicated than that. Going to university is a logical step to a

Dangerous situation Few months ago I went to my friends place to watch some movies and talk about girl stuff. We had lots of fun and we were all prepared for sleep over. We had our sleeping bags, tooth brushes and everything we needed for sleep over. But suddenly I felt really bad pain in my head, I thought it would go over with few minutes but it lasted a while so I decided to go home, it was midnight and i called my parents, they were already sleeping and I didn't have money for taxi so I went on foot. I packed everything and started walking home. For some reason street lights didn't work and therefore I didn't see anything at all, it was really scary. I decided to call my brother, I told him to meet me halfway, he agreed. I started listening to my music because I thought this would make the fear go away

Retell Global Warming

The Earth's climate has been changing constantly over its history. Once, all climate change occurred naturally, but recently, people have also started altering the climate. We are sending more and more greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. The average global temperature has increased by about 0.5 °C over the past century. Scientist expect it to increase up to an additional 3 °C over the next on 100 years. People who are living in cold places may have a chance to grow new crops if the climate gets warmer. At the same time in some parts of the world, people won't be able to grow the food they need. Global warming will make the sea level higher because it'll make the glaciers melt. When water expands in the ocean, it takes up more space and the level of the seas rise. If global warming gets worse, some kinds of plants and animals will become extinct

Men and women in politics

Men and women in politics Women have become a force to be reckoned with in the world of politics. Over the past decade, women have resolved into leadership positions, encouraging the same sex to voice their opinions in voting booths, political debates, and society. Not only in America, but nationwide. Women comprise over 35 percent of the lower house in Sweden, Norway, Finland, and Demark; 15 percent or less are seen in parliaments within ten countries . Over the years, women had to protest and fight for this right so that young women today can vote and have a say so in who represents the people of our city, state, and country. A woman's influence in politics has yet to be recognized as a true political voice of women that actually yields power. Perceptions of women and politics from the media, society, men, and even women themselves have shaped women's ability everywhere to participate politically and socially within our society.

Wave-energy

One of these options is the usage of waves for the generation of electricity. The devices needed to perform this task are called wave energy converters. Wave energy is indirect solar energy in twice. At first there is the wind, which is caused by variations in atmospheric pressure due to a differential solar heating of earth's surface by the sun. Different regions of pressure drives a force which rises a movement of atmospheric air masses that causes the earths wind system. If wind strikes over the surface of an open water, waves are induced. First they are very flat with only a low level of energy. When there is a long distance over the water on which wind can attack the small ones, they became bigger and bigger with a lot of energy inside them. Physics of wave energy To have a better understanding of the technical possibilities to harvest the energy out of waves to convert it into electric energy it may be helpful to have a look

Speetch - Eating disorders

Eating disorders I think that eating disorder is a very serious subject and everybody should know how to eat properly. Many famous film stars, singers and pop arts go on a diet to lose weight. There's nothing wrong with that but you have to know where to draw the line. Being on a diet may seriously affect your mind and body and not in a good way. We also see many over-weight people. That is another extreme. Over-weight is not good for your heart and its actions. It severely damages your heart work and simultanously causes many heart problems. It also shortens your life, too. When people say the appearance of waif-like models in the media may send a dangerous message about eating disorders, general fitness, fashion magazines and television shows with thin characters also play a key role in infuluencing irregular eating patterns. Wll, I think they're right because people take stars as exaples and want ...

Overfishing

These unselective fishing practices and gear cause tremendous destruction on non target (taaged) species. Bycatch and discards and bottom trawling destruction are two examples of this. WHY IS OVERFISHING A PROBLEM?: To explain why overfishing is a problem we first have to get an idea on the scale of the problem. This is best done by looking at repord published by the Food and Agriculture Organization scientists. The above shows that over 25% of all the world's fish stocks are either overexploited or depleted (dipliitid). Another 52% is fully exploited, these are in imminent danger of overexploitation and collapse (kollaaps). Therefore a total of almost 80% of the world's fisheries are fully to over exploited, depleted, or in a state of collapse. Worldwide about 90% of the stocks of large predatory fish stocks are already gone.  In the real world all this comes down to two serious problems.

George Orwell "Animal Farm" essay - "Human nature exposed in the novel"

A lot of it is connected to people's constant need of power and control. "Animal Farm" is a book that reverberates that kind of human nature through politics, dictatorship and power, but in nowadays' World this kind of behaviour occurs also in our everyday life, not only politics. First of all humans are in a constant need of power. The essence of the power does not even matter as long as they have some kind of control. It could be control over some group, over a person and his mind, actions and thoughts or just over a certain situation where we want to gain a higher role so everything could be under their command. People are willing to do everything to get others under their control. In "Animal Farm" Napoleon's first act to gain his leadership was the betrayal of his fellow leader and friend Snowball. Napoleon and Snowball did not agree on their views of leading the farm and Napoleon, who could not deal with divided power, drove Snowball away

Analüüs Swifti kirjandusest inglise keeles

ridiculous idea. It is a comment on the pomp and circumstance of English armies. To Swift it seems that armies are often more concerned with looking impressive than with being impressive. This scene might also be an allusion to the Colossus of Rhodes, described in Julius Caesar by Shakespeare as a largerthanlife figure that men could walk through the legs of. The war between the English and the French is parodied in the conflict between the Lilliputians and the Blefuscudians. Their conflict over which end of the egg to break reflects the centuriesold conflict over how to practice religionas Protestants or Catholics. While the wars over religion certainly were very serious, Swift suggests that what was being fought over (at least on the religious rather than the political side) really was not very important. In Swift's eyes, fighting over religion is as pointless as fighting over which end of an egg to break. Swift also parodies the political parties within England

A formal letter to a newspaper

USA 9th September 2009 Dear Sir/Madam, I am writing with regard to the article 'Txting away ur education' in The Forum column. I have to admit that I was truly inspired by it! I acknowledge the problem of students sending too many text messages and hardly paying any attention at school. First, I have to agree with the argument about declaring war on texting as a new way to be in contact with fellow students over the break, class or other activity. Also, it is important to point out the fact that, according to the Nielsen Co., teens over the country were in the year 2009 sending at least 80 texts a day on average, a figure double what it was the year before. In spite of teens saying that they cannot live without cell phones and iPods, electronic devices should not be permitted in the school buildings. Although students are taking the rules more
