population of more than seven
million. It is also a multicultural city,
as it has been since Roman times.
Now about a quarter of the capital`s
inhabitants are members of ethnic
minotities.
The Irish community
The largest non-English group.
People from Ireland first went to London in
1845.
Irish-born population is over 250,000
Indian communities
Indians are London`s largest ethnic minority.
Population 411,000
Thousands arrived from Uganda and Kenya in
the 1960s.
Many Punjabi Sikhs, live in Hounslow.
Pakistanis and Bangladeshis
Thousands live in London, mostly in the east.
Tower Hamlets is home to about half the city`s
Bangladeshis.
