possible because receptors mediate vasodilation
in the skeletal muscle and heart, while the rest of the
circulatory system (which has receptors) experiences
vasoconstriction.

a. As a result of metabolic activity, cells produce by-
products called metabolites. When a tissue increases
its activity the production of metabolites will also
increase. If blood flow to the area remains constant in
the face of this change, then the metabolites will build
