LÄÄNE-EESTI VETE LESTA
D. minutus is generally found in smaller, younger flounders who populate the shallow
costal waters. C. heterochrous on the other hand is found in older specimen who take
part in the spawning migrations to the high sea. C. heterochrous was more abundant in
spring. Mature females are found throughout, but was found to attain a maximum in
winter (Fagerholm, 1982)
C. osculatum and R. acus larvae are also often recorder in flounder, usually in liver and
mesentery. C. osculatum is a common parasite of seals and fish serve either as second
intermediate host or paratenic host. R. acus adults has been found in numerous species,
but it is not quite clear whether these fish serve actually as definitive host in which the
female parasite attains gravidity or only as paradefinitive fish in which the nematodes
may become mature but are unable to produce eggs. Under European conditions, the
principal definitive hosts of R. acus are pike and trout (Moravec, 1994).
