Principles of PIL
1. Pacta sunt servanda (every treaty in force is binding upon the parties to it and must be performed
by them in good faith)
2. Equal rights and self-determination of peoples (lot of problems with self-determination, many
believe that this means that every nation can have their own independent state, self-determination
in another state, autonomy; a fully independent state is only allowed if the nation is very repressed
in a state, e.g. in Kosowa?, others are not recognized, even de facto states are not recognized
sometimes. Self-determination means that nation has the right to freely exercise their culture and
language)
3. Sovereign equality and independence of all States (all countries are equal in front of law, since
the collapse of the colonial system)
4. Non-interference in the domestic affairs of States (all countries can decide what to do on their
