· 1,789 poems · Highly educated · Amherst's most prominent family · "Bolts of Melody: New Poems of Emily Dickinson" · Poems for Youth (1934, poetry) · Love, nature, religion, morality I died for beauty I died for beauty but was scarce Adjusted in the tomb, When one who died for truth was lain In an adjoining room. He questioned softly why I failed? "For beauty," I replied. " And I for truth,--the two are one; We brethren are," he said. And so, as kinsmen met a night, We talked between the rooms, Until the moss had reached our lips, And covered up our names. Tybalt, still smarting from the incident at the Capulets' ball, had previously sent a letter to the Montagues challenging Romeo to a duel. Meeting Romeo by happenstance, he attempts to provoke a fight. Romeo refuses to fight Tybalt because they are now kinsmen -- although Tybalt doesn't know it, as he doesn't yet know that Romeo has married Juliet. Mercutio, who is also unaware of the marriage, is angered by Tybalt's insolence and Romeo's seeming indifference and takes up the challenges himself. Benvolio tries to make peace and reminds everyone of the Prince's decree. In the ensuing swordplay, Romeo attempts to allay Mercutio's anger, momentarily placing his arm around him. ESTONIAN SYMPHONIC MUSIC. THE FIRST CENTURY 1896-1996.

Individual artists had to reflect the national spirit through the means of their respective discipline. 1 The prominent folklorist and Academician Dr. Oskar Loorits wrote: …not an individual is dominating, but the mass of people, bound together by a strong feeling of kinship and solidarity. Their powerful inner strength emerged in the silent but unshakeable love 2 towards nature, their equal kinsmen and, above all, towards their own home. Among the first composers to derive inspiration from native folk sources was Juhan Aavik. His Estonian Rhapsody (1930) is an orchestral fantasy, developed from three folk tunes. There are shortcomings lessening the favourable general impression: scant contrast between themes, use of variations rather than symphonic development, rather simple harmonic devices and loose form.
