having earlier defeated him at the Battle of Falkirk. Although he won the battle, Edward lost
many men in the battle and was forced to retreat back to England. Edward's plan to conquer
Scotland ultimately failed.
*Eleanor Crosses The Eleanor crosses were 12 lavishly decorated stone monuments. King
Edward I had the crosses erected in memory of his wife Eleanor of Castile. These crosses
