At the present study 10 helminth species were found in the costal waters of Western Estonia; belonging to the following systematic groups: Nematoda ­ Dichelyne (Cucullanellus) minutus, Cucullanus heterochrous, Contracaecum osculatum, Raphidascaris acus; Trematoda ­ Diplostomum spathaceum, Cryptocotyle concava; Acanthocephala ­ Corynosoma sp., Pomphorhynchus laevis, Acanthocephalus anguillae; Cestoda ­ Schistocephalus pungitii. The parasitic helminths found are both not specific and very host-specific parasites of flounders and the fishes serve as a definitive, intermediate or paratenic host Trematodes Cryptocotyle concava was the most abundant parasite, although less numerous in spring. Its definitive host is a fish eating bird and flounder serves as intermediate host. Two species of Corynosoma (Acanthocephala) were found in the prevalence of 42 % both in autumn and in spring.
