Mallard has a white collar which demarcates the head from the purple-tinged brown breast, grey brown wings, and a pale grey belly. The dark tail has white borders. The female Mallard is a mottled light brown and has buff cheeks, eyebrow, throat and neck with a darker crown and eye-stripe. Both the female and male mallards have distinct purple spectulum edged with white, prominent in flight or at rest. Upon hatching, the plumage coloring of the duckling is yellow on the underside and face (with streaks by the eyes) and black on the backside (with some yellow spots) all the way to the top and back of the head. Igas olukorras on kaks poolt ning neid tuleb vaadata koos ja võrdselt. Muinasjutt õpetas lustakas ja lapselikus võtmes elu põhiväärtusi ning jättis mulle väga hea mulje. Lisaks oli muinasjutt ka väga südamlik, autor oskas lugejaid endaga kaasa haarata ja huvi tekitada. Arvan, et tahaksin seda raamatut kindlasti vähemalt ühe korra veel lugeda. Sain teada ka seda, et New Yorgis Central Park’is on Anderseni auks püstitatud ausammas „The Ugly Duckling”. Minu arvates on sellise autori, nagu seda on Hans Christian Andersen, ära märkimine üsna oluline. Tema muinasjutud on väga-väga kuulsad ning arvan, et iga täiskasvanu on vähemalt ühte neist oma lapsepõlves lugenud. Ütleks võib-olla isegi nii, et Anderseni muinasjutud kuuluvad klassikute hulka. Töö probleemiks on see, et inimesed küll teavad Anderseni muinasjuttude pealkirju ja on kursis ka nende sisuga, aga üleüldine teave on üsna väike.
