Inglise keele variandid (Varieties of English)
countries and the colonies felt like they were saved by the white people and the British
brought with them democracy, bureaucracy, christianity, the English language, literacy.
English is often the language of education, internet, airline services, EU, the language of
business, international tourism, preferable language when studying cultures, literature
etc. It is the language of songs, popular culture and music, advertisement, computer
diagramming etc.
We may generally speak of 2 dispersals (diasperas) in English:
1. DISPERSAL
When people migrated from the British isles (England, Ireland) to North America &
Australia. Resulted in native varieties of English .
2. DISPERSAL
Colonisation of Asia and Africa. Varieties as a second language developed.
1. DISPERSAL
· 12th century - the Normans established a territory called "the Pale" in Ireland. A
great influence on the territory of Ireland.
· 1535 - A Statute of Wales (law) that required people in Wales to speak English.
