,,mourning becomes electra". He uses a subjective perspective. In many other plays oneill
uses the mask. In this play the family members wear white, masklike faces. The colousr of
white, that their faces are, indicates their perhaps artificiality. Meaning that what we can see is
not the truth, the reality. The dialogue is very symbolic and yet still remains in realistic frame.
This classical tragedy of electra is told against the setting of the civil war. He uses two
important things, civil war and myth. He uses the setting to show the divided nature of the
