In correspondence theories, Truth is the correspondence to reality.
But we can never tell for sure what reality really is.
Therefore, we can never tell for sure whether our beliefs/representations of the external world are true.
Note: This does not mean that reality is completely different from what we think it is.
This does not mean that correspondence theories are wrong.
Coherence theories of Truth
Truth is coherence between beliefs.
A belief/representation is true if it coheres with a collection of other beliefs/representations.
Ex: ‘Einstein is immortal’ is False because it does not cohere with my beliefs that all humans are mortal
and that Einstein is a human.
The collection of beliefs subject to coherence depend on whose beliefs we are concerned. It might be a
single individual or a whole group.
In the case of an individual, truth is relative to the individual who holds the belief and all truths are
equally true to him
