Public International Law is a system of law
Some overlap with IHL (Ottawa Treaty, chemical convention, biological convention, cluster
bomb convention, etc.). These are IHL because they prohibit using these weapons. Also, they
prohibit transporting, producing, etc these weapons area of disarmament.
Some conventions are clearly law of disarmament. Regarding nuclear weapons treaties
between USA and Russia (reduced nuclear warfare).
Next, protection of peace and international security
If security council beleives there is threat to peace, then they can authorise the use of force.
Unfortunately, the security council is not active enough (due to its composition).
Questions of neutrality or collective defense up to each country to decide how to protect itself
Different military blocks NATO (helped to save Europe from invasion after II WW). Lots of
critisize nato, but thanks to that III WW did not happen.
