Shaun White

He stands 5'8" (1.73 m) tall. White spent his formative years riding Okemo Mountain and Bear Mountain, small ski resorts found in Ludlow, Vermont, and the San Bernardino Mountains of Southern California. Snowboarding career White's skateboard career took place during the same time he was rising through the snowboard ranks. White quickly drew the eyes of many in the skateboarder scene including professional skateboarder Tony Hawk. At this point Hawk befriended the nine-year-old White at a local skatepark and mentored him, helping him turn pro in skateboarding at the age of 17. White has gone on to win many titles on his skateboard, most notably winning the overall title of Action Sports Tour Champion, as well as being the first person to compete in and win both the Summer and Winter X Games in two different sports. Following in his older brother's footsteps, White switched from skiing to snowboarding at age six,

Travels to Europe Douglass spent two years in Great Britain and Ireland and gave several lectures, mainly in Protestant churches or chapels. Some were crowded to suffocation such was his draw, 5 as for example at his hugely popular London Reception Speech held at Alexander Fletcher's Finsbury Chapel in London in May 1846. He remarked that there he was treated not "as a color, but as a man." He met and befriended the Irish nationalist Daniel O'Connell. When Douglass visited Scotland, the members of the Free Church of Scotland, whom he had criticized for accepting money from U.S. slave-owners, demonstrated against him with placards that read, "Send back the nigger". Douglass was able to win back his freedom after British sympathizers paid the slaveholder who legally still owned him. Pre-Civil War In 1851, Douglass merged the North Star with Gerrit Smith's Liberty Party Paper to form

other, and Oliver heads towards the city intent on running away from the Sowerberrys. Chapter 8: Òliver began his walk to London. He had very little food and had to beg for it on his way. He walked for seven days and had very little luck getting food or shelter from people in the towns he went through. He sat with bleeding feet on a doorstep one morning when a curious looking young gentleman around his age began talking to him. His name was Jack Dawkins He befriended Oliver and asked if he was going to London. Oliver told him he was and explained that he did not know where he would be staying. Mr. Dawkins told Oliver he could come with him and with his patronage stay with a gentleman he knew. So Oliver went with Jack and saw the filth of London for the first time in the middle of the night. Jack took Oliver into the house of the gentleman and he met the old Jew, Fagin. Fagin fed him and introduced him to the other boys sitting him in the room who, like Mr

about him, and the rumors got out of hand; or there might have been a very gradual loss of correct information and accretion of false attributions over the centuries. But, in any of these cases, it seems that today the Bible is saying false things about the real person, Jonah.8 It might be thought that ambiguous names--names borne by more than one person--pose a problem for the causalhistorical view. ("John Brown" is ambiguous as between the former Scots ghillie who befriended Queen Victoria after Albert's death, the monomaniacal failed farmer who invaded Harper's Ferry in 1859, and doubtless thousands of other males of the English-speaking world. Until 1994, even the highly distinctive name "William Lycan" applied to more than one person. I suppose the vast majority of names are ambiguous; a name is unambiguous only by historical accident.) This is no problem at all for description theories because, according to description theories, ambigu-

His countenance, voice, and manner had established him at once in the possession of every virtue. She tried to recollect some instance of goodness, some distinguished trait of integrity or benevolence, that might rescue him from the attacks of Mr. Darcy; or at least, by the predominance of virtue, atone for those casual errors under which she would endeavour to class what Mr. Darcy had described as the idleness and vice of many years' continuance. But no such recollection befriended her. She could see him instantly before her, in every charm of air and address; but she could remember no more substantial good than the general approbation of the neighbourhood, and the regard which his social powers had gained him in the mess. After pausing on this point a considerable while, she once more continued to read. But, alas! the story which followed, of his designs on Miss Darcy, received some confirmation from what
