To equip a surgical unit you need equipment such as endoscope instruments including laparoscope, arthroscope, urology tools, hysteroscopy; surgical microscopes; electrosurgical units, anaesthetic gas monitoring systems; surgical operating tables, delivery beds, operating lamps, examination lamps and other neurosurgery instruments. Millions have to be spent to import them into Africa. Are we really educated when we cannot attempt to begin the process of manufacturing these products, but must be dependent on the colonial masters to provide everything for us?
