Tennessee
stars in the center symbolize the three different geographical regions of Tennessee. The white
circle binds them together. The blue stripe along the margin was added for distinction when
the flag is hanging; with the stripe, not only the red shows while the flag is hanging.
In 1796, the Constitution of the State of Tennessee provided for an official Great Seal.
Although the style of the present seal has changed, the basic elements remain similar to the
1796 provisions
