lakes. The entire massif is permeated by accessible pathways for all tourists. By purchasing a map of the Retezat Mountains, you will surely manage to orient yourself; the signs and markers are in top notch condition. Due to the great tourist feed, these markers are maintained permanently by the rescue teams. For those who want to explore the pathways and trails, don't wander off without the minimum equipment: hiking boots, raincoat, torch, rucksack, warm clothing. For an enjoyable stay, it is advisable to come equipped with a portable cooking burner and a small gas tube, (you are not allowed to light fire in the park), a sleeping bag and a tent. I recomended that if you were to find yourself in Romania and you wanted to see its true beauty, you ought to definitely visit the Retezat massif. Titus Biluta Cls. X I

The Domician Monastery

They traded in fish in order to support themselves, but their reason for existing was preaching the word of God. The seal of the monastery bore the words `Order of Preachers". The people, however, knew it as "Blackfriars Monastery' because of the black cloak the friars wore in public over their white habit. Accoding to medieval documents the monastery was dedicated to Saint Catherine. A common symbol of the Dominican Order is a black and white dog holding in his mouth a burning torch. It derives from a pun on the Latin name of the friars, "Dominicanes", which means `the followers of Dominic". But the name could be split into two words "Domini canes" which means "the hounds of the Lord". The torch represents the flame of truth. The monastery was celebrated for its scholarship Its best known prior was an Estonian from Tallinn named Mauritius. He studied theology in Cologne with one of the most eminent medieval scholars, Saint Albertus Magnus, and

time periods of history. The Art Week has some traditional events, such as the play "Moving Pictures" which tells the story of the theme country. At the opening ceremony, people from embassy come to congratulate and thank the students for their efforts of making such a big event happen. There´s also Art Week´s café where traditional food is served. Traditionally Art Week ends with costume party where organizing class performs with their own play. Also they pass on the torch to next organizing class by giving them the Art Weeks flag. This year´s theme country was Japan. The school was decorated with symbolic things from Japan. There was a handmade Torii in the lobby. Art Weeks café was in atrium where 11c did very good job. My favourite food was sushi which I believe was made by themselves. There were many activities in which students could participate. I took part in language lesson, origami lesson, animation workshop where I made my own little cartoon

independence. Though the most diverse sporting event in the world, the Olympics are perhaps not the most popular. The football World Cup attracts more global interest, as measured by the larger television audience. In ancient Olympic Games the Olympic flame was ignited and it burnt until the end of the games. In modern Olympics the flame appeared in 1928. The flame represents purity, endeavor of perfection etc. In 1936 Carl Diem suggested what is now the modern Olympic Torch Relay. It is lit in Olympia by women wearing ancient-style robes using a curved mirror and the sun. It is given from runner to runner until the games have begun. The Olympic flag was created by Pierre de Coubertin in 1914. There are five rings on a white background. The rings are blue, white, yellow, green and red. They represent the five continents of the world. The motto of the Olympic Games is "citius, altius, fortius" which means "swifter, higher, stronger".

A lamb to the slaughter

Would she mind having a look around to see if anything was missing - a very big spanner, for example, or a heavy metal vase. They didn't have any heavy metal vases, she said. "Or a big spanner?" She didn't think they had a big spanner. But there might be some things like that in the garage. The search went on. She knew that there were other policemen in the garden all around the house. She could hear their footsteps on the gravel outside, and sometimes she saw a flash of a torch through a chink in the curtains. It began to get late, nearly nine she noticed by the clock on the mantle. The four men searching the rooms seemed to be growing weary, a trifle exasperated. "Jack," she said, the next tome Sergeant Noonan went by. "Would you mind giving me a drink?" "Sure I'll give you a drink. You mean this whiskey?" "Yes please. But just a small one. It might make me feel better." He handed her the glass. "Why don't you have one yourself," she said

We should admire their courage, their determination and their inventiveness. We must emulate them to make in making this world a better group of people, capable of taking care of themselves, rather than being dependent on others. Education, therefore, should be a way for us to catch up to the Caucasian and the Asian in every way. They have given us a lot, but we cannot discount the fact that we started the ball rolling. It is time for us to take back the torch, or at least start playing in the same field. It is sad that a continent of over 750 million people (correction; 850 million in 2005) and a race of over 1 billion people, no Black has ever won the Nobel Prize for science. Of course, Blacks have won the Nobel Prize for Peace and Literature. I am not arguing that winning the Nobel Prize is the yardstick for intelligence. This method could signal messages over long distances. But modern cryptographers have found several characteristics of the Polybius square, or "checkerboard," as it is now commonly called, exceedingly valuable—namely, the conversion of letters to numbers, the reduction in the number of different characters, and the division of a unit into two separately manipulable parts
