The USA

The United States of America (The U.S.A) Geography The main part of the United states extends from the Atlantic Ocean in the east to the Pacific Ocean in the west. It covers the middle of the North American continent. This area is called ,,the continental United states". The continental United States is bounded to the North by Canada and to the South by Mexico. The border with Canada is often called ,,the longest unguarded border in the world". The United States and Canada are good friends and they have very few problems in managing the border. The borded with Mexico is different. Immigrants are constantly crossing the border illegally. Every day about 2,000 of them are captured and sent back, but may others get through. There are also two states that are not connected to the continental United States. They are Alaska and Hawaii. There are two mountain ranges in ...

History of the USA.

The United States of America. History. For thousands of years America was unknown to Europe. There lived only the native people, who had come from Siberia many thousand years ago by a land bridge. They had spread over the country, varying enormously from nomadic food gatherers to fishing societies. Then the Vikings visited Canada around AD 1000, but they did not stay. In 1492 Christopher Columbus discovered America while trying to reach India. He named the native people Indians, because he though he had reached India. He didn't stay either and in the sixteenth century the first Europeans to settle in America were the Spanish, the English and the French. The first village founded by the English settlers was in Virginia in 1607. It was called Jamestown. They didn't have good relations with the Indians and many of them died. But Pocahontas, the daughter of an Indian chief, became their friend and helped them....

Democracy in the US

The United States is a democracy. The Constitution, laws and traditions of the United States give the people the right to determine who will be the leader of their nation, who will make the laws and what the laws will be. The Constitution also guarantees individual freedom to all. In 1492, Christopher Columbus discovered the New World. Within a few years, the more powerful nations of Europe were claiming great areas there and establishing colonies to support their claims. Most of the colonists were English, but there were also Germans in Pennsylvania, Swedes in Delaware and Dutch in New York. Some of the early British colonists had come to the New World in hopes of enriching themselves, some came because Britain forced them to leave and some because of the opportunity , which did not exist for them in Europe, to own land or practice a trade. But there were also reasons, which had great influence on the shaping of the political system of...

Ka kõige ulmelisemad soovid võivad täituda Kehad vahetusse ingl. Mitch, keda kehastab minu vaieldamatu lemmik Ryan Reynolds, ja Dave, kes on tuntud näitleja Jason Bateman'i kehastuses. Nad soovivad endile teineteise elu . Lapsepõlvesõbrad Mitch ja Dave on hakanud oma eluviiside tõttu lahku kasvama. Dave on pidevalt ületunde tegev advokaat, tal on naine Jamie(Leslie Mann) ja kolm last. Samas Mitch põhimõtteliselt naudib vaba ja vallalise elu, kus tal puuduvad kohustused. Ühesõnaga pereinimene ja rahulikku vallalise elu nautiv poissmees. Kumbki tahaks elada just sellist elu nagu teine elab. Ühel õhtul, kui nad baarist väljudes natuke vindise peaga purskkaevu urineerivad, soovides teineteise elu, täitub nende soov. Järgmisel hommikul teineteise kehast üles tõu...

Punk rock

Punk rock Punk rock on 1970. aastate keskel tekkinud rock muusika stiil, mille iseloomulikud esindajad on ansamblid Ramones, Sex Pistols, The Damned ja The Clash. Väljendit punk rock kasutati esimest korda 1960. aastate keskpaigas USAs arvukate briti rock'i jäljendanud ansamblite kohta. Praegu arvatakse nad garage rock'i alla. Oluliseks suunanäitajaks oli New Yorgis tegutsenud ansambel The Velvet Underground, mis USA avalikkusele vastuvõetamatuks osutus. Teine oluline New Yorgi suunanäitaja oli lühikest aega tegutsenud New York Dolls, mis sokeeris inimesi The Rolling Stonesist inspireeritud äärmiselt lihtsustatud rock'n'roll'i mängimise ning laval naisteriiete kandmisega. Bänd esines põhiliselt kohaliku tähtsusega klubis Max's Kansas City, andis välja kaks albumit ning enne lagunemist oli lühikest aega selle mänedzer hilisem Sex Pistolsi mänedzer Malcolm McLaren. Sustainability aspects of biofuels

Margit Tepner k0848752 Sustainability aspects of biofuels 1. Introduction The literature review will discuss the sustainability aspects of biofuels. Food production will be the main concern as it is the most debated issue, but other aspects, such as land use change and water consumption will be also considered as they are essential aspects in the biofuels sustainability criteria. The review will discuss the viability of biofuels based on the current technologies. Second-generation biofuels are not yet commercially viable and therefore will not be discussed; although they could significantly improve the sustainability of biofuels when they break through to the industrial scale. 2. The scale of biofuels production 2.1. Drivers of biofuels production Lal (2010) stated that "three inter-connected challenges face humankind in the 21st century": food security, climate change, and energy security. The world...

Bridges presentation

Foreword Bridging rivers, gorges, narrows, straits, and valleys always has played an important role in the history of human settlement. Since ancient times, bridges have been the most visible testimony of the noble craft of engineers. A bridge can be defined in many ways, but Andrea Palladio, the great 16th century Italian architect and engineer, hit on the essence of bridge building when he said "...bridges should befit the spirit of the community by exhibiting commodiousness, firmness, and delight." In more practical terms, he went on to explain that the way to avoid having the bridge carried away by the violence of water was to make the bridge without fixing any posts in the water. Since the beginning of time, the goal of bridge builders has been to create as wide a span as possible which is commodious, firm, and occasionally delightful. Spanning greater distances is a distinct measure ...

Narva Eesti Gümnaasium Uurimistöö 17. sajandi maalid: aksessuaarid Koostaja: Karina Repetun Klass: 12 Juhendaja: Tanel Mazur 2013 Narva 1 Selle uurimuse eesmärgiks oli välja otsida kõik 17.sajandist pärinevad maalid, millel oleks kujutatud erinevaid aksessuaare nagu näiteks nööbid, kaelakeed, kõrvarõngad, sõrmused jne. Otsimiseks kasutasin kõige suuremat internetipõhist entsüklopeediat Wikipedia. Olnud sisestanud otsingusse "17. sajandi kunstnikud", leidsin koheselt suure nimikirja, milles olid kunstnike nimed tähestikulises järjekorras. Otsingu tulemustest tegin sobilikest maalidest valimi, mille põhjal koostasin oma uurimistöö. Töös esinevaid kunstnikke saab eristada nende elu- ja tegutsemiskoha järgi: Holland, Saksamaa, Sotimaa, Inglismaa ja Prantsusmaa. Suurem osa antud uurimistöös esinevates...
