Londoni üleujutused London on Suurbritannia pealinn, mis asub Thames'i jõe kallastel. Vee vooluhulk Thames'is on suur. 1983. aastaks valmiski Briti valitsuse algatusel Thames'i jõele hiiglaslik tõusubärjäär.

Estuary English 1. The geographical dimension: Is `Estuary' English estuary? Estuary English is a dialect of English widely spoken in South East England, especially along the River Thames and its estuary. Phonetician John C. Wells defines Estuary English as "Standard English spoken with the accent of the southeast of England".[1] The name comes from the area around the Thames, particularly London, Kent, north Surrey and south Essex. The variety first came to public prominence in an article by DavidRosewarne in the Times Educational Supplement in October 1984. [2] Rosewarne argued that it may eventually replace RP (Received Pronunciation) in the south-east. Studies have indicated that Estuary English is not a single coherent form of English; rather, the reality behind

London History The Romans AD 43- AD 410 The Romans finally invaded Britain in AD 43 from Kent. The Romans lead by Julius Caesar attempted to invade Britain twice before that in 55 and 54 BC but the invasions were unsuccessful. They made their way to the river Thames and sailed up it. The Romans knew it was important to control a crossing point at the river Thames, so they decided to build a settlement on the north bank. Although small settlements had been built on the banks of the Thames, the Romans were the ones who built the first city. They called their city Londinium. The Roman engineers noticed that the point where the swampy river narrowed would make an ideal crossing point, they built London Bridge. Less than 20 years later the native Iceni tribe, led by Queen Boudicca, rose up against the Romans in revenge for mistreatment and burnt Londinium to the ground. The well disciplined Roman army defeated her forces and Londinium was rebuilt

London London is one of the world's great cities. Located in the southeast of England, on the River Thames, it is the capital of the United Kingdom and has been the heart of its political, cultural and business life for centuries. London has always been the centre of the world. The origin of the city may be dated around the beginning of the 1st century when a Celtic tribe settled near the Thames. The Romans founded London about 50 AD. Its name is derived from the Celtic word Londinios, which means `the place of the bold one'. The Romans brought with them forts, roads and the rule of law. Then in 61 AD Queen Boudicca led a rebellion against the Romans. Her army marched on London. No attempt was made to defend London. Boudicca burned London but after her rebellion was crushed it was rebuilt. By the end of the 2nd century, a 6metre stone wall was erected around London

Over 1,700 people in five countries would be involved in building it. The population of an entire alpine village would test the embarkation procedures. Almost every component and construction technique would have to be invented from scratch. Glass for the capsules would have to be double-curved and laminated. And transportation of the components would take on a scale reminiscent of pyramid building: delivery would have to be timed to co- ordinate with tides in the River Thames, so that large parts could be safely negotiated under London's bridges. Clearance under Southwark Bridge would be as little as 40 centimetres. One of the world's tallest floating cranes would be needed to lift the massive quarter sections of the rim onto eight temporary platforms floating on the river. Each of the 32 passenger capsules would have to be designed to be just within the maximum width allowed on the French

This famous historical site has been the living quarters of monarchs. It has been a site of imprisonment and execution of many traitors, clergymen, nobles and framed members of the royal court and was also an armory, treasury, zoo and mint. Today it houses the crown jewels and has a museum filled with armor, weapons and implements of torture. Another popular tourist sight is the London eye. Constructed by British Airways, it towers 135 meters above the banks of the Thames River. It is located near Big Ben and Westminster Abbey, on the opposite bank, adjacent to London's county hall. Views from the eye are spectacular and on a clear day most of London can be seen. If there's only one museum that can be seen, the British Museum is the one to visit. This museum has some of the largest collections on human culture and history. It is the home of the Rosetta Stone and has one of the most comprehensive ancient coin collections on exhibit
Suurimad jõed saarel on Thames,Severn. Selleks ohuks on Suurbritannia Thames-i jõgi.Saare kuulsaim järv on kindlasti Lock Ness-i järv,kus arvatakse olevad eelajalooline dinosaurus
