Gabriel rejoined the cause against his father's will again, stating it was his duty as a soldier so Benjamin also decided to join, leaving the rest of the children in the care of their aunt Charlotte, the sister of Martin's deceased wife. They knew that the Colonials couldn't defeat the British and so with the help of Col. Harry Burwell Benjamin organized a militia to keep the British in the south until French Navy arrived to assist. To combat the militia Tavington had to pursue more brutal tactics to draw Martin out. So he tracked Martin's family to their refuge with Charlotte and burnt down her plantation. However, the family escaped, and were led to a safe haven by Gabriel and Martin. Gabriel got to marry Anne Howard. Soon after the marriage, returning home, Anne and her family, along with all the townspeople, were burnt alive whilst locked in the church. The orders for this came from Tavington.

Near Benjamin Martin (Mel Gibson) mansion was a battle, after which Benjamin decided to take care of wounded (Americans and British). One of the wounded was his eldest son Gabriel who was messenger. Later that day British army visited his house, took their men and killed all Americans except for Gabriel. Gabriel was caught; his brother tried to save him and got killed. Colonel William Tavington ordered his men to burn mansion, Benjamin in anger took his war equipment and with his two sons attacked group which transported Gabriel. After saving son, he entered army and started annihilating British army. In this film you can see Mel Gibson in his best act ever.
